Ex-PSG star feels Moise Kean is ‘mix’ of two world-class strikers
PSG legend Jerome Rothen feels Moise Kean is playing like a combination of two world-class strikers. He predicts a tough test for the on-loan Everton man.
Jerome Rothen is a Paris Saint-Germain star from a different time. He played over 150 games for the club before the big takeover, winning the Coupe de France and Coupe de League over a five-year spell.

And the former France international has given his impression of a very interestting current PSG player – Moise Kean. The 20-year-old is currently on loan form Everton, without a purchase option, and is playing remarkably well.
Kean already has five goals and an assist in six starts. He’s fitting in wonderfully well, then, at a club that boasts Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Mauro Icardi as striking options.
And Rothen likes what he sees.
“I love this kind of attacker,” . “Kean is a bit of a mix between [Edinson] Cavani and Icardi. He is interesting in the game with his back to the goal. He can still do better technically but he scores.”
Rothen sees a test coming, though, as Icardi prepares to return from injury.
“Icardi still cost 50 million euros last summer,” he explained. “So the weight of his transfer is going to give him more playing time. Kean is doing good things, but when Icardi returns, he will be [Thomas] Tuchel’s preference at first.
“And if Icardi does not play well, Kean will be able to bring interesting things.”
TBR View:
Kean is reaping the rewards of Neymar, Mbappe and Icardi being out. And so Rothen is absolutely right – it’ll be a far bigger test when he’s got to compete with those names.
But Kean has done so well up to now that he’s surely still going to play. Now, he might not play as much but his contributions up to now essentially guarantee that he’ll be in Tuchel’s thoughts.
It’s a testament to just how impressive Kean looks, after all, that Rothen compares him to both Cavani and Icardi. Cavani is PSG’s all-time record goalscorer with 200 goals, while Icardi scored 20 last season and has well over 100 goals for Internazionale.
If Kean can keep up with those players this season, then he’s set for a very interesting time when he returns to Everton.
