‘Everyone will profit’: Ex-West Ham hails Nikola Vlasic signing

Nikola Vlasic will be a tremendous signing for West Ham United. That’s according to one form Hammers coach and compatriot of the player.

West Ham made a fairly brave decision to sign Nikola Vlasic this summer. He’s failed in the Premier League once before, after all.

The Croatian joined Everton back in 2017 but played just 19 times for the Toffees. 12 of those came in the Premier League but without a single goal. Vlasic just couldn’t make a proper mark and Marco Silva didn’t include him in his plans for the 2017/18 season.

Instead, Vlasic went to Russia, where he’s spent years with CSKA Moscow. Some fine performances there earned him a move back to England with West Ham – but it’s still a risk.

Some players just don’t click in the Premier League. It’s a tough league that demands certain qualities that players can lack. West Ham needn’t worry, however, says one former coach.

Jurčević on Nikola Vlasic signing

Nikola Jurcevic, who worked at West Ham under Slaven Bilic, doesn’t believe anyone should pay attention to Vlasic’s Everton struggles. This is a different player and one far more suited to his new club.

“Moyes praises him a lot, which does not surprise me because we all know Vlasic’s qualities,” he told .

“He came to Everton as a very young player, and he also had the misfortune that they fired Koeman who brought him. He is now more experienced, better, extremely ambitious.

“West Ham is, I would say, just a club tailored to him, a club where he can show if he is capable and ready to go to the highest European level.

“Vlasic is versatile; he can play practically all positions in the offensive segment, which Moyes obviously knows well. I believe that everyone will profit with Vlasic in the locker room.”

Vlasic certainly was very young at Everton – he didn’t turn 20 until he’d left the club. He also hadn’t achieved very much before moving there and was purely a player with potential.

The Toffees didn’t give him a real chance to show that, however. CSKA did and got 33 goals and 21 assists for their troubles.

Vlasic is now far more proven, experienced, and ready to take on the Premier League. He’s still only 23, too, and should only get better.

So we’ll side with Jurcevic here – this is a signing that should only profit the people involved. It’s a decision from West Ham that will pay off.
