‘Everyone knows’: Matt Doherty now makes claim about Harry Kane after his penalty miss for England
Matt Doherty has offered his support to Tottenham talisman Harry Kane after his penalty heartbreak for England.
We all know by now that Kane made it 1-1 on Saturday night but missed from the spot to make it 2-2 and England were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Doherty spoke to about the incident and gave the Three Lions skipper his complete backing.

Doherty on Kane
He said: “I thought England played well against France, to be fair, and France didn’t really get going. I feel like France had one attempt at goal and scored twice – the first wasn’t even a half-chance.
“England looked dangerous. Harry obviously scored the first penalty, and then everyone knows what happened. That’s tough on him.
“These things happen. Pretty much everyone who knows ‘H’ would have put their house on him scoring, everyone knows he’s the best man for the job.
“It will be tough for him now but when he gets back in, we’ll rally around him and get him up and running again. He’ll be fine. He’s one of the strongest characters, mentally, that we all know.”
Doherty hits at the heart of the issue with Kane’s miss; he is a hugely reliable penalty taker and nobody sensibly would have had anyone else taking the second spot kick.
Gareth Southgate could not legislate for what happened next and that just showed it was not meant to be on the night for England.
Kane will get support from his manager and teammates when he gets back into domestic action, which looks like it will be on Boxing Day against Brentford given he has been given just a week off from training to get over his World Cup heartbreak.
