‘Everyone in the stadium’ was stunned by one thing Chelsea’s Cole Palmer did vs PSG, says Gary Lineker

Chelsea won the Club World Cup over the weekend, and Cole Palmer has since received high praise from Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

The Blues can now officially call themselves world champions after an impressive 3-0 win over the current Champions League holders, Paris Saint-Germain.

Their victory over the weekend means Chelsea have secured the right to wear the gold FIFA Club World Cup patch for the next four years.

They also, of course, netted themselves £100m after winning the final, in which Cole Palmer stole the show.

Gary Lineker says Cole Palmer did something shocking during Chelsea vs PSG

The West London outfit took the lead after 22 minutes via Palmer, before the England international made it 2-0 eight minutes later.

He then assisted Joao Pedro for Chelsea’s third and final goal of the day, capping off a brilliant display.

Palmer’s performance has now been discussed by Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on the Rest Is Football podcast this week.

When praising the Chelsea midfielder, Lineker revealed the player shocked the stadium with one piece of skill that led to a goal.

He said of Palmer: “Such a beautifully gifted footballer, we said it before, makes the game look easy.”

Lineker added: “He was getting so much space, but the way he was ghosting in where he did the dummy, pretending he was going to do the overlapping pass and just cut inside, I mean I think everyone in the stadium bought that one, every one of us. His finishing as well.”

Alan Shearer makes Cole Palmer claim after PSG win

Palmer ended 2024/25 as the club’s top goalscorer (18), while also notching 14 assists.

He’s carried that form into the summer, and Alan Shearer, who was speaking alongside Lineker, thinks the Englishman was ‘the pick of the bunch’ against the French champions.

Shearer stated: “It’s outstanding, to do it on that stage against those players who have been so magnificent, basically dominated Europe for the last year.

“We’ve spoken so much about their midfield and everything else and how brilliant some of their players have been and rightly so, but he was the pick of the bunch by an absolute mile, I thought he was absolutely outstanding.”
