‘Everybody at Arsenal’ wants ‘top midfielder’ to join this summer, player just waiting now – journalist
Youri Tielemans is still at the top of Arsenal’s list of players to sign this summer and the player is keen to join the club, .
, Paxton said that the Arsenal hierarchy would like to bring in the Belgian midfielder from Leicester.
“I think he is a player they envisaged would be the one they got. Everybody at Arsenal – from the manager to Edu – are sold on the idea of signing Youri Tielemans if it’s possible,” he said.
“I think the player would be keen to come. I last spoke to his agent a little while ago who said to me ‘I don’t have much of an update because there’s nothing new’. It’s a waiting game for them as well.”

Arsenal will likely have to move on a big-name player in order to bring Tielemans in, but once that’s happened, Paxton doesn’t believe there would be any issue in convincing the midfielder to sign for the Gunners.
“I do get the sense that if Arsenal were to make a bid that satisfied Leicester it wouldn’t be a problem getting Tielemans on board. He’s kind of waiting for this.
“Arsenal feel that they hold the cards in this, they don’t need to rush.
“Once we have managed to free up some space in the squad and free up some more resources, that’s when Arsenal will look at a central midfielder. Tielemans is still, from what I understand, at the top of that list.”
Tielemans future needs to be decided soon
Tielemans has ‘ of signing a contract extension this summer according to Fabrizio Romano.
If that’s the case, Leicester may have to cash in soon to avoid losing one of their star players on a free transfer when his contract runs out next year.

If Tielemans does sign for Arsenal, he may be competing for game time with new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko, who plays in a central midfield role for Ukraine and Edu believes could reach a ‘different level’ at his new club.
The Belgian international, , would be a great alternative to the more defensively minded Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka if he did join the Gunners.
