Everton’s reported interest in Ivorian dynamo could be very telling

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Franck Kessie from AC Milan.

, the Toffees are one of two other Premier League sides keen on the Ivorian dynamo – Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur apparently being the others.

Kessie will be allowed to leave the club this summer, despite only signing permanently a few weeks ago.

The star had been on a two-year loan at San Siro from Atalanta (which cost €7 million/£6 million), and joined for a fee in the region of €24 million (£21 million).

It would seem though, Milan are looking to make a quick profit.

Kessie made 42 appearances for the Rossoneri last term, scoring seven goals and making three assists.

Everton’s apparent interest is a little strange at first glance, but it may suggest that a key player will depart to accommodate him.

TBR’s view

The future of Idrissa Gana Gueye is still up in the air.

In January he was the subject of a pursuit from Paris Saint-Germain, and the player gave an interview () once the window had shut stating playing at the Parc des Princes would be something of a dream.

Everton’s interest in Kessie would perhaps suggest that the club are not confident of holding onto £70,000-a-week star Gueye () this summer.

Although slightly more box-to-box, Kessie would surely only be signed as a replacement for the Senegal international.

The club have officially made Andre Gomes one of their own, and Gylfi Sigurdsson’s role as the team’s number 10 is assured.

Perhaps if Gueye wasn’t leaving, then there wouldn’t be any need to target Kessie.
