Everton’s incoming signing struggled to replace a Liverpool flop

Everton are all set to sign Jonas Lossl from Brighton.  the Dane has signed a three-year deal at Goodison Park and joins on a free transfer. He will hope to push Jordan Pickford for first-team football on Merseyside.

But Everton fans might be concerned to realise he failed to adequately replace a Liverpool flop. Lossl joined Mainz from French side Guingamp in 2016. He was being charged with replacing Mainz’s highly-rated goalkeeper, Loris Karius.

Karius had headed to Anfield in a to be worth around £4.75 million.

But the Dane admits that he did not manage to successfully replace the German. , he conceded that replacing Karius was not easy.

“The fact is [Karius] made amazing saves at important times and I didn’t. It wasn’t my best season but that was true for the whole team.”

Everton fans will certainly be concerned about those comments. Karius struggled across Stanley Park and was certainly a point of ridicule aimed at Reds fans for some time.

His errors in last year’s Champions League final appear to have ultimately cost him his position at Anfield.

Everton are hoping to close the gap on Liverpool. In that case, having Lossl as back-up is perfectly fine. But if he ends up playing regularly, having a player who failed to replace an Anfield hack will likely not play well with the fans.
