Who is Everton’s imminent signing, Nikola Vlasic?
say that Everton are close to completing an £8 million deal for Hajduk Split midfielder Nikola Vlasic only weeks after coming up against the Croatian side in their Europa League qualifier.
Who is he?
A 19-year-old winger, Vlasic can play on either flank and has been capped by Croatia. He earned his first national team appearance in the summer against Mexico as a reward for his fine form for Hajduk Split after he was appointed vice-captain at the start of the 2016/17 season.
Where has he been?
Vlasic joined the club at the age of 12 and made his debut at just 16-years-old. Since then, he has rapidly become a key player and his appointment as vice-captain said as much after only two years in the first team and at only 18-years-old. He has racked up 120 games in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 20 assists.
What’s his style of play?
Vlasic can play anywhere across a front three, figuring as a central striker in recent times. Usually though, he is found on the wing or in a number ten role just behind another centre forward.
The youngster is quick with the ball at his feet and when on the move, but has immense technical ability which would put him up there with some of the best in the Premier League in terms of his first touch and footwork.
What would his arrival mean for Everton?
Throughout the summer Everton have been linked with strikers to bolster their forward line, despite the arrival of Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez. The arrival of Vlasic and the form of Rooney may indicate that Ronald Koeman does not hold out much hope of adding another striker.
Alternatively, Vlasic may be added to figure on the wings, bringing pace and youth to an area where the squad is lacking real quality. Long term, the Croatian could be the kind of class that they need on the flanks at Goodison Park.
