Everton’s Cenk Tosun is surely staring a January exit after latest Carabao Cup snub
Everton striker Cenk Tosun was nowhere to be seen for the club’s Carabao Cup clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Toffees took on the Owls in the third round of the competition, and won 2-0 thanks to a brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The England U21 international was selected by Marco Silva to lead the line, with Moise Kean left on the bench for the visitors.
Strangely, Silva opted to leave £28 million signing Tosun () out of his squad completely, which surely throws his future into even more doubt.
The Sam Allardyce signing made a bright start following his January 2018 move but has really struggled for regular minutes since Silva’s arrival.
Last term he made just 29 appearances, with the majority of those coming as a substitute.
TBR’s view
Tosun’s absence against Wednesday was fairly telling.
It would have been the ideal fixture for him to feature and perhaps raise his confidence, but Silva chose not to include him at all.
There have been no reports of any injuries, meaning £60,000-a-week player Tosun () was simply snubbed by the Portuguese.
It comes after the club tried to offload him as part of a deal to sign Wilfried Zaha in the summer ().
His Goodison career appears to be coming to an end. Unless both Kean and Calvert-Lewin sustain injuries, it is hard to see Silva wanting to turn to the former Besiktas man at this point.
