Everton’s Alex Iwobi has failed to match early-season enthusiasm of Joleon Lescott
Everton completed a £35million () deal to sign Alex Iwobi from Arsenal last August and he arrived as a promising addition this season.
The Toffees spent big to bring the Nigeria international to Goodison Park and he was expected to inject some extra quality in the final third for them.
He is a skilful left-winger blessed with plenty of pace and he made 149 senior appearances for Arsenal before exiting the Emirates Stadium.
Former Everton defender Lescott was buzzing about Iwobi’s arrival back in the early stages of the season and gave a prediction that he could become a real fan favourite ahead of his first game for them.
“I’m a big fan of Iwobi. I’m surprised Arsenal let him go. Iwobi seems to play with good energy and desire that fans want to see regardless. He seems to be running at his maximum every time he gets the ball, which will only hold him as a fans’ favourite at Everton,” Lescott told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (22 August, 10:30pm), as relayed by The Boot Room.

Iwobi has unfortunately been unable to live up to the expectation so far from Lescott, while there are plenty of Everton fans who would’ve expected more.
The wide player has scored just two goals in 22 appearances since he joined in last summer’s transfer window and a lack of composure with his final ball has let him down.
He’s now got to work his way back into the starting XI under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, but has competition from teammates such as Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bernard and Theo Walcott.
Iwobi has the individual talent on his day to torment defences with directness, but he’s got a long way to go to live up to his £35million valuation.
