Everton want £8m defender who has just refused a ‘fantastic offer’ to sign for another English club

Everton appear to have identified a Premier League ready defender who could be available for a very reasonable price this summer.

Sean Dyche and his team will be diligently trying to improve this Everton squad, who should now be set to welcome Jack Harrison back on loan for another season.

This summer, it appears that Everton will be somewhat restrained when it comes to parting with big money to bring players in.

It’s long been thought that Dyche’s side will need to sell one of their stars to adhere with PSR, to avoid another sanction next season.

Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite are arguably the club’s two most attractive assets, players they’d be loath to lose.

But on the balance of things, Onana isn’t quite as crucial as Branthwaite to Dyche’s project moving forward.

That being said, there will still be the opportunity to improve.

And according to in France, Everton are now interested in former Burnley defender Lorenz Assignon, who just rejected a permanent move to the club.

Everton interested in Lorenz Assignon who refused to follow Burnley to the Championship

24-year-old Assignon was on loan at Burnley last season, playing 15 Premier League games in total, and impressed despite the club’s relegation.

Assignon demonstrated strong attacking flair at right-back, and was also very capable at defending one versus one.

And according to the report mentioned, Burnley were very keen to sign Assignon permanently, prepared to activate the £8m clause in his loan.

However, despite tabling a ‘fantastic offer’ to the Frenchman, Assignon was not interested in following Burnley to the Championship.

Assignon wants a new challenge this summer and seems likely to leave Stade Rennais upon his return.

Olympique Marseille are said to be the frontrunners for his signature right now, but all of Galatasaray, Everton, Fulham and Nice are also very interested.

Everton also chasing deal for Illiman Ndiaye

Both Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman competed on the right for Everton last season.

But with Coleman now 35-years-old, it would seem sensible for Dyche’s side to invest in more cover in the position, even considering Ben Godfrey’s versatility.

Either way, it’s clear that Everton are not wasting any time this summer, keen to avoid being involved in another relegation conversation.

And that explains why Everton have just launched a £20m bid for Iliman Ndiaye, who they tried to sign last summer.
