Everton Update: Who is the latest front runner for the managerial position at Goodison?
It has been a few weeks since former Everton boss David Moyes ended his eleven year spell with the club and “the Toffee’s” fans are still waiting on who will succeed him.
Club owner, Bill Kenwright has held meetings with three possible replacements. These include Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, Porto manager Vítor Pereira and finally Molde and former Manchester United player Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Kenwright is expected to make a final decision later this week on who will replace Moyes at Goodison Park.
Roberto Martinez has already given Bill Kenwright a one to one presentation on what he would like to achieve at Everton. This included, philosophy, budget, potential transfer targets and Martinez’s expectation for the upcoming season. Roberto has enjoyed two successful spells with Swansea City in the Npower Championship, playing passing football, where he employed a 4-5-1 system.
The Spaniard gained most of his fans during his time with Wigan. Having achieved the impossible by beating Manchester City in the final of the FA cup this year, he has also guided the Latics to Premier League safety season-after-season. This year however, he finally failed to do so. As a result, Wigan will be playing back in England’s second tier of football next campaign.
Vítor Pereira, the Portuguese manager who currently runs proceedings at FC Porto, has been heavily linked with the Everton job. The 44-year-old has only managed one big club in Europe, however has guide Porto to two Portuguese league titles. He also reached the knock out round in the Champions League, where his side were eliminated by Spanish team Malaga. Vitor has had a successful two season spell at Porto, implementing an attractive style of football which the club’s fans admire.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær,current manager of Norwegian club Molde, used to Manage the Manchester United reserves before moving to the Norway. He has a 55% win percentage and has won the league title on two separate occasions. Ole plays a attacking 4-4-1-1 system and encourages his team to press very high and play from the back. Ole has always hinted that he would love to manage in the Premier League where he was so successful as a player. He has also hinted that he would love to manage Manchester United but will have to prove a point when he gets it. The Everton job would be ideal for Ole as its a demanding job where he can achieve success and show the Manchester United board that he is cable of managing the big clubs.
In my opinion, I would love to see Roberto Martinez as the next manager of Everton. He plays attractive football, he is also very tactical manager and is used to spending well with a smaller budget than the other Premier League clubs. Bill Kenwright will have to pay Wigan £2 million if they want the Spanish manger, who is likely to be a big success in Merseyside.
