Everton tying down Callum Connolly and Kieran Dowell equally as important as other deadline day business

Transfer deadline day was a busy one for Everton fans. The Toffees completed three deals on the day, with Bernard, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes all arriving. All three look like very competent signings and can hopefully go on and be stars for Everton this season and beyond.

However, there were two other pieces of business which might have slipped by the casual fan. On the same day as bringing in three new players, Everton also tied down two others to new contracts.

Kieran Dowell and Callum Connolly both signed new deals with Everton on deadline day. The pair agreed to three-year deals, keeping them at Goodison Park until 2021.

Both players are excellent prospects for the future at Everton. Dowell had a decent loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season, whilst Connolly did well with Ipswich Town.

The latter has now gone out on loan again, joining Wigan Athletic. He scored on his debut v Aston Villa yesterday.

As important as the three marquee signings were on deadline day, these two deals cannot be underestimated.

The pair, who won the Under-20 World Cup last summer and the Toulon Tournament this, are top talents for the future at Everton and this is a sure signal that Everton believe in their progress.

Hopefully, both can live up to the expectations surrounding them going forward.
