Marcel Brands will have to sell players before Everton can sign PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries, according to .

Dumfries could now move to one of Europe’s top-five domestic leagues after Euro 2020. Everton are keen to see the 25-year-old test himself in the Premier League, but face competition from Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

PSV are aware they can use Dumfries’ Netherlands form and strong run in the last Eredivisie season to now cash-in. He captained the Philips Stadium outfit to second place under Roger Schmidt and offered plus nine assists.

Brands would need to sell players before Everton are able to afford Dumfries, however. have previously cited a €15m (£13m) valuation, but journalist Rene van der Gijp has warned a €35m (£30m) fee is now likely.

The Toffees’ Director of Football also faces growing rival interest for Dumfries. And this summer could be PSV’s best option to sell their 2018 signing as his contract enters the last two years.

TBR’s view: Everton facing multiple Dumfries hurdles

Brands is clearly facing multiple hurdles in his bid for Everton to sign Dumfries this summer. The Dutch chief will have to be quick offloading those deemed surplus to requirements, then, but any plans can change with a new manager.

The next Everton boss may be more willing to give some of those written off by Carlo Ancelotti another chance. And doing so could delay plans for Dumfries and open the door for Bayern Munich, Inter or AC Milan to strike.

The German and Italian sides can also offer Dumfries Champions League action next season that Everton cannot. He could also be the first-choice at the San Siro next season for either side. Chelsea are , while Manchester United back from his AC loan.
