Everton striker Cenk Tosun deserves first Premier League start of the season

Everton boss Marco Silva has consistently overlooked Cenk Tosun so far this season, but the striker has continued to be a brilliant professional and deserves to be rewarded.

The Turkey international has made just four appearances across all competitions this campaign and not started a single one.

He came off the bench on two occasions in the Carabao Cup and provided an assist in each match, while he also helped the Toffees salvage a point at the weekend.

The 28-year-old entered the action during the 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham and scored a stoppage time header in the Premier League match.

Everton travel to Southampton on Saturday for the final game before the international break and desperately could do with a win to help them climb from 17th in the league table.

Silva is surely under immense pressure at Goodison Park and he needs to spark a reaction from his side.

Tosun should be given a first start of the season against Southampton at St Mary’s and he should be confident after his contribution against Spurs.

There are no Everton forwards in the squad that have seized the central role this season, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean only showing glimpses.

Tosun is a clinical goalscorer on his day that deserves his shot in the team after watching on from the sidelines and may help solve the problem in front of goal.

There is definitely talent in his boots that has never really been shown in the Premier League and he deserves another chance.
