Everton man Yannick Bolasie sends defiant Instagram message to Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman has been heavily criticised for his injury-time penalty as he failed to score from the spot against West Ham United on Saturday to salvage a point – but Everton star Yannick Bolasie has leapt to his defence.

Tomas Soucek scored the only goal of the game in the 91st minute, as the Hammers earned a 1-0 win over struggling Fulham at the London Stadium. But the result for Scott Parker’s men could have been very different.

Indeed, new West Ham signing Said Benrahma tripped Fulham skipper Tom Cairney in the penalty area deep into injury time. It handed Fulham loanee Lookman the chance to score from the penalty spot in the 98th minute.

The 23-year-old opted to chip the ball down the middle of the goal, but effort was so week that Lukasz Fabianski was able to sprawl back to his feet and stop the ball. Lookman apologised to supporters on Instagram after the match.

Lookman is currently on loan at Fulham from German side RB Leipzig after the attacker swapped moved to Germany, for a fee of £22.5million (). He has made a bright start in a side that are up against it.

Lookman played just 48 times for Everton before he was shipped off to Leipzig but Bolasie – now an outcast at Everton following a loan with Sporting Lisbon – defended Bolasie on his Instagram story.
