Everton star Ben Godfrey recalls torrid afternoon facing Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Everton defender Ben Godfrey has recalled coming up against Dominic Calvert-Lewin last season – describing the experience as one of his hardest days playing in the Premier League.
The star was asked to name his toughest opponent with three supporters who were being rewarded for signing up to the club’s Official Membership.

Godfrey, who sealed a transfer to Goodison Park in the summer for around £25 million () overlooked other top strikers in the league like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (who scored four times against the Canaries in 2019/20) and Jamie Vardy and plumped for a man he now gets to call his teammate in Calvert-Lewin.
He said: “That day (Carrow Road, Norwich vs Everton 24/6), Dom did not stop running for 90 minutes.
“It was the most annoying day of my life because he worked so hard.

“I would actually say, for me personally, that was my hardest day in the Premier League. He just doesn’t stop running. He can jump, he can run, he can finish.
“It’s not nice for a defender when you’ve got Dom chasing you around.”
Since that game against Godfrey’s Norwich, £70,000-a-week star Calvert-Lewin () has been in superb form and already has 14 goals for the Toffees this season.
TBR’s View – Calvert-Lewin is a total handful
Godfrey’s comments just underline what a handful Calvert-Lewin is these days.

The England international’s game has reached new heights in 2020/21, and his development under Carlo Ancelotti has been brilliant to watch.
If he can keep up his fantastic form, Everton can surely threaten for a top seven finish.
