Everton should target Schurrle if relegation ends his Fulham loan deal a year early
Andre Schurrle will leave Fulham at the end of the season and return to Borussia Dortmund if the Cottagers are relegated,
The 2014 World Cup winner has moved to Craven Cottage on a two-year loan deal, but it will end early if Claudio Ranieri’s side drop into the second tier.
Fulham are currently seven points adrift of safety after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Crystal Palace but Schurrle has that he will return to his parent club if the Whites are unable to stay up.
When asked if he would remain with Fulham in the event of relegation to the Championship, Schurrle : “No, my loan would end upon relegation – the contract in Dortmund would be active again.”
But with Dortmund’s young side flying at the top of the Bundesliga – thanks in no small part to the emergence of Jadon Sancho – there may be no space for Schurrle under Lucien Favre.
The fact that the club were willing to let him leave for two years does not bode well for his hopes of rebuilding his career at Dortmund, and that could create a window of opportunity for Premier League clubs – including Everton.
Schurrle has been one of the brightest points of a disappointing campaign so far for Fulham and the Toffees are in need of another winger to provide an ungrade for Theo Walcott while Ademola Lookman remains a raw prospect.
A short-term deal for Schurrle could be ideal – a low-cost option for a proven winner who knows what it takes in the Premier League and can play on both sides or as the central striker.
