Everton should have gone with Sean Dyche and not Marco Silva in 2017
Everton’s defeat at the weekend to Burnley came under increasing pressure on current boss Marco Silva. After Newcastle United’s win over Manchester United yesterday Everton are now in the relegation zone and many fans are calling on Everton to take action and give Silva the boot.
There were even some reports that an Everton fan had a ‘David Moyes SOS’ banner at Turf Moor, which was later debunked.
However, there have been calls from some fans on social media regarding a potential comeback for Moyes.
The irony in that comes from the team they lost to yesterday. Burnley are a team of hard-working, well-drilled and committed individuals. In terms of talent and balance sheets, they do not match the current Everton squad.
However, like the Everton of the Moyes era, they consistently play above themselves and the results have been clear to see in the Premier League.
The reason why is their manager. Sean Dyche is proving himself a sensational figurehead at Turf Moor and his work at the club perhaps doesn’t receive the acclaim it fully deserves.
If Everton wanted to get back to the days of Moyes, where the team truly played for the badge and worked beyond their potential, then Dyche would be the perfect man for the job.
Which is what makes the weekend defeat even more frustrating. Everton could have had Dyche.
Everton chairman Farhad Moshiri decided on Marco Silva ahead of Dyche when Ronald Koeman got sacked. In the end, he had to settle for Sam Allardyce before eventually appointing Silva that summer.
That report suggested Dyche was very interested in the Everton job and in hindsight he might have been the perfect appointment at Goodison Park.
a £4m-a-year deal could prise Dyche away from Burnley but Everton pursued Silva.
Judging by the way Dyche tactically outclassed Silva and his players completely outbattled them, that looks increasingly like a bad choice.
