Everton should consider sacrificing Idrissa Gana Gueye to bring in Thomas Meunier

Everton clearly have a fight on their hands to keep hold of Idrissa Gana Gueye. PSG are very keen on signing the player. , the French side have lodged a £21.5 million bid for the player.

The report claims Everton will reject the offer, but that the 29-year-old wants to make the switch.

However, one twist to emerge from this story yesterday revolved around Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier.

Everton are keen on the PSG defender.

Everton should certainly be wondering whether a swap deal could be for the best in the long-run.

The Toffees are struggling at right-back. Seamus Coleman’s best days are clearly way beyond him. Jonjoe Kenny remains some distance from being a regular option. Meunier would be a tremendous replacement and long-term option at right full-back.

If Gueye wants to go, Everton should certainly consider allowing it if Meunier comes the other way.

This season is essentially over for Everton following damp exits from the cup competitions and a mid-table Premier League finish looking likely.

The likes of Tom Davies, Morgan Schneiderlin, James McCarthy and even Beni Baningime could plug the Gueye gap until the end of the season. At that point, Everton can bring in a suitable top midfield target to replace Gueye.

Meanwhile, they can start next season with one of Europe’s best right-backs in tow.

Everton would surely have to consider such a deal.
