Report: Schalke join the chase to sign highly-rated Everton defender

Bundesliga outfit Schalke have emerged as potential suitors for the services of Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny,

Premier League clubs Burnley and Crystal Palace are also in the race for the player who could be offloaded by the Toffees this summer.

Kenny played second fiddle behind Seamus Coleman last season and he could be allowed to leave in search of first-team football.

The 22-year-old made nine appearances last season and is under contract at Goodison Park until 2022. As a result, it seems more likely that Kenny will leave on loan and not permanently.

The youngster is currently preparing for the European Championships with the England Under-21 team. Following the tournament, he seems likely to face a summer of speculation.

Schalke would represent an interesting move for Kenny. If he does opt for a switch to Germany he will hope to emulate fellow Englishmen Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson, with both enjoying success in the Bundesliga.

TBR Verdict

A move to Schalke certainly seems more attractive for the £15k-a-week performer .

Kenny would play a lot at both Palace and Burnley but with all due respect, they are both smaller in stature to Everton.

Schalke probably are too. The chance to sample another league, another culture and cut his teeth playing regularly against top players would be a great opportunity, however.

Kenny definitely needs to play regular football and it seems unlikely he will do that at Everton. A loan move would be best for all parties and hopefully, he can prove his worth during a tempory stint away from Goodison Park.
