Everton reportedly join transfer race for Valencia attacker Goncalo Guedes

Everton have reportedly joined the race for Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes, with the Spanish side eager to sell the Portuguese international.

Valencian sports station Plaza Radio report that Everton have entered the tug-of-war for the 24-year-old attacker. that Premier League side Wolves are also keen on Guedes. Valencia are willing to sell the wide-player for €40m (£34.6m) this summer.

Valencia, as well as multiple clubs around Europe, need to sell this transfer window after amassing major financial problems over the past few years that have been intensified by the pandemic. that the Spanish club owes over €200m (£173m) in debt.

Everton are likely to be in the market for reinforcements this summer as Carlo Ancelotti’s side finished 10th in the Premier League.

The Toffees ended the season three points off a European spot despite looking likely for the majority of the campaign to claim a UEFA Europa League berth or a place in next season’s UEFA Conference League.

TBR View: Guedes signing would be a big step in the right direction for Everton

Guedes is a player who is accustomed to links to the Premier League, with the Valencia winger continuously being rumoured with a move to England ever since breaking through into the Benfica first-team as a teenager.

Yet this summer could finally be the time the Portuguese international makes the move across the English Channel and to the Premier League, and for Everton, acquiring the signature of the 24-year-old attacker could be a big step in the right direction for the club.

With the majority of Everton’s goals coming from central areas in the form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, more productivity in the wide positions is needed for the Merseyside club. And Guedes could be just the player to fill in this role to boost the Toffee’s scoring output that could get them over the line next season for a European spot.
