Everton reportedly in talks and Capello’s comments this week will excite Toffees
Everton are reportedly in talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva and Fabio Capello’s comments on the Brazilian this week will rid Everton supporters of any concerns they may have over his age.
Silva will turn 36 in September and remains on the books at PSG until their Champions League campaign comes to an end. He played the entire match as PSG left it late to beat Italian side Atalanta on Wednesday.
Everton and Fiorentina have opened talks with the player’s entourage over a move. The Toffees are likely to have more spending power, and the chance to form a reunion between Silva and Carlo Ancelotti.
But given his age, fans would be forgiven for thinking that the pacy Premier League may prove too much for Silva. However, ex-England gaffer Capello’s comments this week will alleviate those concerns.
“If I needed a defender, I would take Thiago Silva,” Capello told Sky Sports, when discussing the future of ex-AC Milan star Silva. “For another two years he can still play with a cigarette in his mouth.”
TBR’s view – Silva is a no-brainer, if he wants Everton move
He would be a no-brainer even if Everton were well-stocked in the heart of their defence. But Everton need a central defender, given they boast just Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane as options.
But regardless of whether Everton need a centre-back or not, signing Silva should be a priority this summer – especially because of the partnership at PSG between Ancelotti and the defender. On a free, he can be a real coup.
