81 minutes, 6 goals: Everton will be gutted to have missed out on Alcacer

Everton have struggled to find their consistency at the start of their time under Marco Silva, entering the international break in a mid-table position.

The Blues splashed the cash in the summer to land the likes of Richarlison, Kurt Zouma and Bernard but still failed to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Manchester United last summer.

It could have been different though as Everton were then at Barcelona, and had their foot in the door for negotiations after bringing in Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Lucas Digne from the LaLiga champions.

However, Everton did not complete a move and the Spanish striker subsequently joined Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season and has become an instant hit in Germany.

The 25-year-old is yet to start a game in the Bundesliga for his new side but six goals in just 81 minutes of action have put Dortmund top of the table and Alcacer top of the scoring charts, while also scoring in the Champions League against Monaco.

Alcacer’s finest moment game in Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Augsburg as he came off the bench for the final 31 minutes of the tie, scoring a hat-trick that included a 96th match-winning penalty.
