Everton now reportedly want £140k-a-week PL star Benitez led race to sign in 2017

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe may be offered the chance to leave the Emirates in January, with reports this week claiming that both Everton and Crystal Palace want the Ivorian.

Pepe continues to divide opinion amongst the Arsenal fans. On his day, he can look absolutely devastating. He has 25 goals and 18 assists in all competitions for the Gunners.

However, it is surely fair to say that he has never quite been able to live up to expectations having arrived for back in 2019.

And with that, some may be hoping that Arsenal do indeed receive a substantial offer that allows them to make some of that money back before his value potentially drops further.

It is probably little surprise to see Palace named as admirers. Patrick Vieira has previously been linked with a host of Arsenal players since arriving, including Eddie Nketiah.

And of course, a move to Selhurst Park would also see Pepe – – link up with international teammate Wilfried Zaha.

But Everton’s reported interest cannot be underestimated.

That is because Pepe found himself as a Toffees target back in 2019, .

And Rafa Benitez’s admiration of the player seemingly goes back even further. In fact, that the Spaniard wanted to sign Pepe for Newcastle.

The report claimed that the Magpies even led the race at that stage following their promotion back from the Championship.

Could Benitez finally land Pepe as Everton are linked with Arsenal star?

It would be a surprise if Pepe ended up at Goodison Park. Everton did not spend big money in the summer. And Arsenal are going to be wary of making a substantial loss.

Meanwhile, Toffees fans will be worried about history repeating itself. They have not had the best fortune since signing another Arsenal player for big money in Alex Iwobi.

But Benitez and Marcel Brands are seemingly admirers. So if Arsenal are open to a bargain deal, perhaps it would be foolish to write off the idea of Everton making a move for Pepe.
