Everton must ditch pursuit of Doucoure due to newly-inflated asking price

Watford will demand £50m for midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and have ruled out the possibility of selling him in January,

Back in November, Everton were with a swoop for Doucoure as Marco Silva eyed up another reunion with a player he managed at Watford, after securing the services of Richarlison during the summer.

There were many eyebrows raised at the pricetag for the Brazilian then, but while he has silenced the doubters by becoming an integral part of Everton’s attack, the Toffees should not get up to the £50m mark for Doucoure.

Doucoure has enjoyed a good season for the Hornets but with Idrissa Gueye already at the club – who is a superior option – there is no logic in paying such a huge fee for the Watford man.

In actual fact, pulling out of the race for Doucoure could actually boost Everton’s hopes of keeping Gueye out of the clutches of Paris Saint Germain, with whom he has been recently.

The French champions are chasing Doucoure as well, and if they are able to sign him, it would reduce the chances of them coming to Goodison Park to poach Gueye on top.
