Everton missing out on reported long-term Brands target Thomas Meunier is not a problem

It appears Everton will again miss out on the Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier this summer. The PSG star is a free agent at the end of the season and it was that Everton’s long-term interest in the player remained.

For Marcel Brands, the Everton director of football, that interest extends even further. The Dutchman, wanted Meunier at PSV Eindhoven way back in 2015.

However, as reported by numerous sources, Meunier has reportedly agreed terms over a free transfer move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

But is missing out on long-term Brands target Meunier actually a bad thing for Everton?

You’d have to say no.

Everton are fortunately blessed with options at right-back.

Seamus Coleman remains the club captain and a reliable option at right-back. Djibril Sidibe is currently on loan from Monaco, £12.7 million permanent option in the deal. Meanwhile, talented youngster Jonjoe Kenny is thriving out on loan at Schalke.

Add to that Mason Holgate’s versatility and Everton simply do not need to bring in right-back options this summer.

Spending wages elsewhere would be a far wiser use of Everton’s resources this summer.
