Everton missed out on Lukaku but will be much happier with Digne

Jordan Lukaku is to become Newcastle United’s first piece of transfer business this month.

, the Lazio full-back will join up with Rafa Benitez’s squad on loan until the end of the season.

The Welshman has struggled with injury this season, hence Benitez’s swoop for Belgium international Lukaku.

Lukaku is the brother of Manchester United striker, who used to play for Everton before his switch to Old Trafford.

Everton actually made an £8 million bid for Lukaku last summer , but they’ll surely be pleased the move never materialise for him now.

Digne turned out to be a fantastic alternative

Everton’s failure to sign Lukaku wasn’t all bad – it meant they ended up signing Lucas Digne, who has been a revelation for the Toffees so far.

The Frenchman has impressed with a string of attacking displays from full-back, all while Lukaku has sat and warmed the bench at Lazio.

While Digne has pretty much been a mainstay for his new side, Lukaku was been restricted to just eight appearances at the Stadio Olimpico, only one of which was a start.

Lukaku will do incredibly well to outperform Digne during his time at Newcastle, but he’ll be raring to go after a frustrating season so far.
