Mason Holgate update could see Jonjoe Kenny depart Everton

Everton allowed full-back Mason Holgate to join West Brom on loan during January, which raised fears over his long-term Goodison Park future.

The 22-year-old failed to win a place in Marco Silva’s side and off he went to the Championship.

Since arriving at The Hawthorns he has contributed three assists from his nine games and looked solid.

Holgate has been used a right-back by the Baggies but has been known to play at the heart of the back four with Everton.

It would appear that the ex-Barnsley man does still have a future on Merseyside, however.

Silva has no plans to permanently offload the defender.

That could bode well as far as next season goes, but maybe not for Jonjo Kenny.

Kenny is a year younger than Holgate and has competed for the right-back berth with Seamus Coleman throughout 2018/19.

He has played nine times in all competitions and has done a job when called upon.

Holgate’s return to Goodison could set Kenny back, however, and it could perhaps be his turn to go out on loan next season.

Kenny has spent time on loan with Oxford and Wigan previously and another stint away from the club might not be far away.

Holgate is playing well at the Albion and should be able to compete for a place straight away when he returns to Everton.

Silva could look to get Kenny regular football next season in an attempt to have a similar effect on his career.
