Everton make contact with Champions League club over ‘complete midfielder’

Everton have been fairly busy on the transfer front this summer, making four new signings but also selling three players.

The Toffees have bolstered their ranks by bringing in Jake O’Brien, Iliman Ndiaye, Tim Iroegbunam and Jesper Lindstrom.

However, Everton have also lost Amadou Onana and Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa, while Ben Godfrey has joined Atalanta.

Now, it looks as though the Blues are thinking of making a move for a “complete” midfielder who has also been linked with West Ham of late.

Everton make Carlos Soler approach

According to Florian Plettenberg, Everton are now exploring a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.

The 27-year-old has been on the Toffees’ wish-list for a “long time” and interest is “concrete”, added the Sky Sport Germany journalist.

Indeed, Everton have reportedly made contact with PSG over Soler, but West Ham are still in the race and planning their next steps.

has reported that Soler is valued at £20million.

Other players linked with Everton in recent days include Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe.

What Everton could expect from Carlos Soler

Soler made a name for himself at Valencia, registering 226 appearances, 31 goals and 31 assists for Los Che.

This earned him a move to PSG in 2022, but he’s struggled to break into the starting XI, so it looks as though they’re now happy to sell.

In terms of his style of play, Soler has been compared to iconic Spanish trio David Silva, Santi Cazorla and Juan Mata, as per .

Soler, speaking to the newspaper in 2022, played down those comparisons, though he was certainly flattered.

“You’re putting me alongside Cazorla or Juan and David? Nah,” he said.

“Look, it’s a compliment. They’re players with that ‘pause’ that maybe the Premier League didn’t have.

“It’s all so mad, so physical, that if you can adapt to the intensity and then make the right decision, find the right space, that gives you something.

“Football is ever more physical but the player that ‘arrives’, that filters the final pass can adapt well: like Pablo Fornals, say.”

Curro Torres, who coached Soler at Valencia, previously told AS, via : “He’s the complete midfielder and can act as a six, an eight or a 10; he has power, arrives in the box and can score.

“I know him and I know that he can still bring his game to the next level. He has taken on responsibility in the team too.
