Everton-linked striker nets 35th goal from 36 league games, closing in on record

Reported Everton target Ciro Immobile made it a staggering 35 goals from just 36 league games on Wednesday night.

The Toffees have been linked with the Lazio sharpshooter for a number of months now, with recently reporting that the 30-year-old is one of Carlo Ancelotti’s main summer transfer targets.

Immobile has been nothing short of sensational for the Biancocelesti this season, his goals contributing to Simone Inzaghi’s side pushing Juventus all the way in the Serie A title race.

Though the Bianconeri have won the Scudetto once again, Lazio – currently fourth – will be hoping to finish second, with Inter Milan and Atalanta just a point ahead of them with one game to go.

On Wednesday night, the Rome side ran out over already-relegated Brescia, Joaquin Correa netting a 17th-minute opener and Immobile making it two with eight minutes left.

Immobile’s goal, a well-taken finish from a tight angle after being assister by Correa, took him within two goals of breaking Gonzalo Higuain’s Serie A goalscoring record, 36 scored for Napoli in 2015-16.

The veteran forward has played in all but one of Lazio’s league games this season, .

Everton have improved since Ancelotti’s appointment, but there is much work – and strengthening – to be done, given they ultimately limped to a 12th-placed Premier League finish.

Immobile would be a superb acquisition for the Toffees, though making it happen will be tricky – he is reportedly valued at , and the player himself is said to be happy at the Stadio Olimpico ().

However, the opportunity to play in the Premier League under one of the most esteemed coaches in the world, not to mention a fellow Italian, could surely be food for thought for Immobile.
