Everton legend Neville Southall names his potential Silva replacement, fans react
Everton legend Neville Southall reckons the club should place Duncan Ferguson in charge of the first-team if Marco Silva gets the chop.
The Portuguese tactician is going through another tricky spell at Goodison Park, having lost three of the last four Premier League games.

The Toffees were beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield United at the weekend, and previous defeats to Bournemouth and Aston Villa have cranked up the pressure on Silva.
There is already talk about how long the former Watford boss will last on Merseyside, with expectations at the club high after a summer of big spending.
In the eyes of former goalkeeper Southall – who represented the club from 1981-98 – ex-striker Ferguson, who is a first-team coach, should be entrusted with the job if Silva is fired.
: “If the manager goes I want big Duncan to have it for a bit give someone who knows what fans want a chance.”

It is certainly a bold shout from Southall, with Ferguson having never before managed a team.
Everton fans react
Southall is a hugely popular individual, but his suggestion fell pretty flat with the majority of Everton fans on social media:
He might know what we want but it would be a massive job for someone who’s never managed a club before. Even Unsworth found it difficult.

Surely its not that bad yet. We can’t keep swapping managers every two years Nev. Going back, Howard wouldn’t have lasted a year and he went on to become one of the greats

Bad shout that nev

No thanks, Nev… ?

I don’t think Silva should be put under such pressure after just 6 games. At the end of last season we were flying. If he ‘did’ go, I’d demand a high profile replacement, otherwise we’re going in circles. Sentiment doesn’t win football games.

Why Neville? I struggle to understand his influence on the squad since he’s been there? What is he supposed to be doing? ?♂️

Shocking shout that Big Nev ?. Footys moved on a million miles gone r the days the experienced pro in the side would get the caretakers job to see out the season or the icon ex pro to give the place a lift. We’re spending 100s of million now instant success it what every1 craves

With all due respect big man we would be making the same mistake again. Before Marco Silva came I wanted a manager with a track record and a ‘winning’ style that gets fans out of their seats. That’s not Duncan.

That’s some step up, all’s he’s done on match days for the last 3 years is put the cones out and now you want him to manage Everton!!!!!
— Paul (@murph1588)
Nev, I love you, but this is a bad shout. Dunc has been involved with the last four managers, nothing points to him being ready to manage, Unsworth certainly wasn’t and at least he had some experience with the U23’s.

It’s a no from me… he has little or no input from the bench from what I’ve seen. He Is definitely not the answer.
