Everton knew the risks with Yerry Mina

Everton defender Yerry Mina has suffered another injury, in what is turning out to be a nightmare first season at Goodison Park.

The 24-year-old was on international duty with Colombia when he hobbled out after just 42 minutes against South Korea.

Mina fell awkwardly, and signalled immediately that he could not continue in the match.

It is understood that he sustained a hamstring injury, and is now looking at a few weeks on the sidelines. he is to undergo a scan at Finch Farm to determine the extent of the damage.

It is a huge blow for the player, who just hasn’t been able to get going for Everton following his £27 million move from Barcelona last summer ().

TBR’s view

Mina’s stint at Everton has been nothing short of frustrating for fans.

Following his brilliant showing at the World Cup, big things were expected of the South American colossus.

It was anticipated that he’d be shutting attackers out at the back, while nodding headers in from corners at the other end. But it hasn’t quite turned out like that.

Instead Mina has made just 14 appearances for the Toffees and scored once.

Upon joining the club, he was made to wait for his debut until November after a troublesome metatarsal injury.

Perhaps Everton shouldn’t be surprised Mina is crocked again given his relatively poor injury record as a professional.

Concerningly since the summer of 2016, Mina has missed 208 days through various injury problems, amounting to 38 games.

Mina appears to be somewhat fragile judging off how many games he has missed so far in his career, and surely Everton will have known to expect similar challenges with the player.

The £27 million spent on him is now starting to look like a bit of a risk.
