Everton have got the right left-back in Lucas Digne over Kieran Tierney
This summer Everton were desperately after a new left-back. Leighton Baines fading fortunes and fitness meant he could no longer be trusted as the only left-back option at Goodison Park.
One name that was immediately linked with the role was Celtic defender Kieran Tierney. , the 21-year-old was swiftly earmarked as a potential option. However, when it became clear that £25 million was not going to be enough for Everton to get their man, they moved on.
Judging by the way things panned out, Everton will be reasonably happy.
The Toffees ended up snapping Lucas Digne up from Barcelona. The French international cost to be in the £18 million region.
He has quickly become a fan favourite at Goodison Park. The Frenchman has established himself as the number one choice at left-back, with Baines waiting in the wings.

Tierney, by his own high standards, has not been at his best this season. He has performed well but looks burned out. Which is fair, considering he is just 21 and already has over 150 appearances under his belt, including 55 last season.
His form for Scotland has particularly suffered. It does not help he is asked to play out of position, but his own goal condemned the Tartan Army to a disappointing loss against Israel this week.
Meanwhile, Digne has been recalled to the World Champions squad and looks to be a great signing for Everton.
He was cheaper, has more experience at the higher level and is still only 25-years-old. Everton have got the right man in at left-back.
