Everton had lucky escape over reported interest in Jonathan Ikone
Everton reportedly held an interest in Lille winger Jonathan Ikone but his start to the 2020/21 campaign might make the club glad they didn’t push harder for his signature.
It was March when French outlet reported that the Toffees and Manchester United were set to battle it out for the player who has a valuation of £60 million.
Based on the last two seasons, it’s easy to see why the Premier League duo were keen. The 22-year-old has registered 17 assists for Lille and interest has been rife.

The current campaign has been a struggle though.
Manager Christophe Galtier has used Ikone has a winger and as a centre-forward and that hasn’t helped his consistency.
He’s managed just three goals in 11 appearances and hasn’t registered a single assist yet.
Two of his goals came in the Europa League against Sparta Prague and Celtic, with his solitary Ligue 1 strike coming in a 4-0 win over Lens.
Everton got their transfer business pretty much spot on during the summer.
James Rodriguez has been one of the signings of the season so far, with Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure bolstering the midfield ranks.
Robin Olsen made his debut on Sunday between the posts and the Swede also looks like a solid addition to the squad.
Norwich defender Ben Godfrey was also added to the ranks.
Risk
Carlo Ancelotti will be determined to get it right and it could take another window or two for his Everton squad to take shape.

Ikone at £60 million would have been a risk and on current form, it looks like they can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Everton were stung when they signed Alex Iwobi for from Arsenal.
There is an argument to suggest that Ancelotti needs another winger but after landing Rodriguez, he will fancy attracting a bigger name than Ikone.
The Frenchman at his current price would be too much of a risk and the Toffees perhaps had a lucky escape in the summer.
