Everton fans want to see Niels Nkounkou shine after Lucas Digne injury announcement
Everton have announced that their defender Lucas Digne has picked up an injury – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by claiming it’s a great opportunity for Niels Nkounkou to step up.
The Toffees confirmed Thursday evening on their that 27-year-old left-back Digne has suffered an ankle ligament injury and he’s set to undergo surgery on Monday.
There is no timescale put on when he could return, but reported earlier he will be out of action for two months.
With Digne set for a spell on the sidelines, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is going to need to find a solution in the full-back position and there are two obvious candidates.
Experienced versatile star Fabian Delph has been used at left-back in the past and could step in, alternatively 20-year-old talent Nkounkou would be more like-for-like replacement.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media have made it clear they want to see Nkounkou given his chance as the stand-in for Digne.
The Young Frenchman is an attack-minded left-back that has impressed in his four senior appearances since he joined in the summer, but it would be a big task to step into the main XI for a period of time and three of his games have come in the Carabao Cup.
He’s a speed machine that looks dangerous going forward, but he’ll have a lot of defensive questions asked of him if he plays in top-flight games.
Here are some Everton fans discussing Nkounkou:
Unleash the Nkounkou

Absolutely gutted about Digne being injured. Step up NKounkou, the one thing we are good at as a club it’s developing left backs. Hope he gets the nod over Delph.

Awful news about Digne.
He will be a massive loss as he is so key to how we play.
Just when he had been reunited with Richarlison as well!
Big chance for Nkounkou to impress further
