Everton fans take to Twitter as Seamus Coleman picks up hamstring problem

Everton’s transfer window saw them fail to sign cover at right-back.

The Toffees, now led by Rafa Benitez, have started the Premier League season unbeaten, winning two and drawing one of their first three games.

Yet as we approach match-day four of the season, Everton fans have been left extremely disappointed as Seamus Coleman has suffered an injury.

While away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, the veteran Goodison Park favourite has picked up a hamstring injury.

This was confirmed by Everton on Twitter, with many fans flocking to the replies to bemoan their club’s failure to bring in another right-back.

The chances are that one of Mason Holgate or Ben Godfrey will be the man forced to deputise in Coleman’s absence, yet having no specialist right-back in reserve is far from ideal.

Sadly, this is an issue that was predictably going to happen at some point.

Coleman may have been a loyal servant for the Toffees, yet at the age of 32, and with a history of injury problems (), this was inevitable.

Last season saw the ageing right-back make 25 appearances in the Premier League, missing 13 games with either one of Godfrey or Holgate having to fill in at full-back.

At times last season the Toffees even found themselves fielding four natural centre-backs, with Godfrey at left-back and Holgate at right-back.

Yet somehow, those full-back issues haven’t been addressed.

The club has had all summer to make a move and bring a deputy full-back, yet failed to do so.

The fans could all see this defensive problem coming to bite them. They would have just hoped that they might have got through more than three games before having to worry about a lack of depth at full-back.
