Everton fans react to Lucas Digne performance in Merseyside derby

Everton battled to a 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby yesterday at Goodison Park in a game marred by controversy.

The Toffees saw Richarlison sent off in a game with some controversial VAR decisions but eventually grabbed a point that keeps them top of the Premier League table after five games played.

It was Dominic Calvert-Lewin who scored the crucial goal for Everton, equalising after Mo Salah’s slashing volley had put Liverpool back in the lead.

But as sublime as DCL’s header was to level the scores, it was laid on a plate by the exquisite delivery of Everton’s left-back Lucas Digne.

The Frenchman delivered an inch-perfect cross to showcase his own claim to being the best left-back in the league, alongside his Liverpool opposite Andrew Robertson.

It followed a week in which Digne provided a similarly impressive assist for Kylian Mbappe on international duty with France and Everton fans were once again left singing the praises of the former Barcelona man.

Many wondered how Everton might replace club legend Leighton Baines at left-back but Digne has made it a simple transition and, in respect to Baines, is actually a far more impressive defensive player than the recently retired Goodison hero.

Here’s hoping Digne can continue to write his own name into Everton folklore going forward…
