Everton fans react to Kurt Zouma’s horror show at Old Trafford
Former Everton loanee Kurt Zouma had a nightmare return to Chelsea on Sunday. Zouma gave away a penalty in Chelsea’s 4-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Everton tried to re-sign Zouma this summer after he formed a strong partnership with Michael Keane. But Chelsea were reluctant to let him go; their transfer ban prevented them from finding a replacement so Zouma stayed.
The deadline day sale of David Luiz to Arsenal and an injury to Antonio Rudiger gave Frank Lampard a selection dilemma in central defence. Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori and Zouma were vying for the two starting centre-half spots.
Lampard went for the pairing of Christensen and Zouma but Chelsea shipped four goals on the opening day of the season. Zouma was directly responsible for the first as his clumsy challenge tripped Marcus Rashford in the box. The England striker brushed himself down to put Man United in the lead.

But Zouma’s performance was worse than just giving away a penalty. The Frenchman was sloppy in possession and looked nervous when Rashford or Anthony Martial was running at him.
Here are some tweets from Everton fans discussing Zouma’s Chelsea display.
