Everton fans react as Newcastle reportedly discuss signing Toffees ace Lucas Digne
Lucas Digne could end up leaving Everton for Newcastle in January . The Frenchman has fallen out with Rafa Benitez – and Everton fans have discussed Newcastle’s interest.
Digne, 28, is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. Joining the club in 2018, he has since clocked up 127 appearances for Everton, having joined the club from Barcelona for a fee of £18million ().
Newcastle could do with a left-back. It is a problem area that existed even during current Everton manager Rafa Benitez’s time in charge. Matt Ritchie and Jamal Lewis are currently sharing the position under Eddie Howe.
But Lewis has not done as well as many might have hoped, while Ritchie is naturally a right-sided midfielder. Paul Dummett is also on the books, but the Wales international struggled even in the Championship.

Jetro Willems was excellent while on loan from Frankfurt, but a long-term knee injury halted the Netherlands international’s stay on Tyneside. He has since joined Greuther Furth, who sit bottom of the Bundesliga.
Digne to Newcastle: What are Everton fans saying about move?
Digne would be an amazing signing for Newcastle. But with four years to run on Digne’s contract, and having captained the club and become a fan’s favourite – the chances of him leaving are slim.
Even if he does leave, amid reports of a rift with Everton boss Benitez, it will surely be to a club playing in Europe – more likely, the Champions League. Everton fans have named their price, with some wanting a swap deal.
