Everton fans rave about performance of Andre Gomes during 1-0 win

Everton ensured it wasn’t a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show with a 1-0 home win over Southampton last night.

The Toffees were in action for the first time since claiming their first win over Liverpool at Anfield since way back in 1999.

A goal from Richarlison in the first half handed Everton all three points and put them back on level points with their fierce rivals.

The Toffees could and should have scored more goals but fortunately, they weren’t made to pay for some wayward finishing.

One man who was in tremendous form for Carlo Ancelotti’s team was Andre Gomes.

The Portuguese midfielder has struggled for consistency this season but looked to be edging back to his best with this showing.

Gomes has made 19 appearances in the league during 2020/21, with 11 coming in the way of starts.

The midfield maestro looks to be a player fancied by Ancelotti and plenty more football should come his way this season.

Gomes is paid by Everton making him one of the club’s highest-paid players.

With that comes a certain level of expectation and supporters were impressed with his efforts last night.
