Everton fans and Yannick Bolasie react to Leighton Baines’ wondergoal vs Leicester

Everton found themselves behind for the first time during Duncan Ferguson’s brief spell in charge last night when they went in 2-0 down at half-time against Leicester.

The EFL Cup semi-finals looked out of reach thanks to goals from James Maddison and Jonny Evans but Ferguson has changed the mentality around the club.

Tom Davies pulled one back on 70 minutes but as the game drifted into stoppage time, something special was needed to take the Premier League’s second-placed side to a penalty shoot-out.

Leighton Baines provided exactly that, with a stunning long-range strike rolling back the years and sending Everton to within touching distance of the semis.

Baines unfortunately missed Everton’s second penalty in that shoot-out, as they went down 4-2 to the Foxes, who will face Leicester City over two legs for a spot at Wembley.

But Yannick Bolasie, who is on loan at Sporting from Goodison Park, led the plaudits for Baines over his unbelievable strike, with plenty of fans showing their appreciation too.

It proved not to be Everton’s night as the wait for silverware threatens to go on another season, but Baines produced a reminder of his quality and why Everton extended his contract in the summer.
