Everton: Expensive flop to leave; Juve join race for Belgian star; Wijnaldum snub revealed

He was the third most expensive player in the club’s history, but it looks as though £13.5 million man Oumar Niasse could be departing Goodison Park just six months after joining from Lokomotiv Moscow. It is being reported that over a deal to sell the player to the Istanbul-based side.

It would be no surprise to see Niasse leave after making just seven appearances for the club, in which he failed to live up to his sizeable price tag. Martinez signed the Senegalese forward in the hope that he could fire Everton up the Premier League table and ultimately save his job, but things didn’t work out as planned.

The 26-year-old was only used sporadically by the Toffees, and whilst it does take time to adjust to a new league and footballing culture, he never really showed any sign that he had the potential to offer something to the team once he had settled down. If reports are to be believed then the club’s new manager, Ronald Koeman, is ready to move the player on in order to make room for new signings, and with a return to Turkey on the cards, where he spent a season with Akhisar Belediyespor in 2013/14, Everton supporters may well have seen the last of Niasse.

Meanwhile, the Toffees now face competition from Juventus in the race to sign Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel.

Italian newspaper, , are reporting that the Italian club see the 27-year-old as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, should the Frenchman leave the club this summer. This would be a blow to Everton as they were originally believed to be in pole position to sign Witsel. Koeman has made the signing of the Belgian international one of his main priorities this transfer window and it would be a huge blow to the Dutchman’s plans if they were to miss out on the player.

Finally, Liverpool new boy Georginio Wijnaldum has revealed the reason as to why he turned down Everton to join the Reds. The Dutch international has claimed that merely speaking with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was the reason he favoured a move to the red side of the city.

“There was interest from Everton but Liverpool had more interest. Jurgen gave me a good feeling in that conversation. Straight after that I had the feeling that I wanted to come to Liverpool.

Koeman had been hoping to convince the 25-year-old to join Everton but his move to Anfield this week has forced the Toffees to turn their attentions elsewhere. Reports in recent days have linked the club with moves for Wijnaldum’s former Newcastle teammate Moussa Sissoko, as well as Juan Mata and Gylfi Sigurdsson, but none of these targets appear to be close to a move to Goodison Park just yet.
