£30m-valued ace linked with Everton in January makes decision on future
A player believed to have been sought after by Everton head coach Carlo Ancelotti during the January transfer window has officially made a decision on his long-term future.
According to a report in from 20 January, the Toffees were said to be preparing a £30million bid for Emre Can, formerly of Liverpool and then of Juventus.
The report claimed that Ancelotti had switched attention from Adrien Rabiot to his then fellow Juve midfielder, who was out of favour in Turin.
Didi Hamann previously described his compatriot as “a very technically gifted player, a very good passer of the ball with very good vision”, as per the Liverpool .
In the end, Can made the switch to Germany with Borussia Dortmund, joining the Bundesliga side on transfer deadline day.
It has now been confirmed by the Bundesliga that, just 18 days after the switch, the 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a permanent deal as of 1 July 2020.
According to , Can – who has made three appearances for Dortmund, scoring on his debut – has signed for 25m euros (£21m) on a four-year deal.

While Can would no doubt have been an asset for Everton, his prior stint with Liverpool may not have been received well by sections of the Goodison faithful – likewise with some Reds fans.
The Calciomercato report claimed Can was warming to a possible Everton move, but in the end, the lure of a return to his home country and a move to one of Germany’s biggest clubs proved too much.
There may possibly have been a sliver of opportunity for Everton in the summer, but that Dortmund have snapped the midfielder up on a permanent deal so soon after his move is testament to what a good footballer he is.
