Edin Dzeko to Everton would be interesting, but only a short term fix for Marco Silva.

Everton are among the frontrunners to land ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko this summer.

The Bosnian international has scored 12 goals and claimed seven assists this season for Roma.

Dzeko has netted 85 goals and contributed 35 assists during his time at the club, becoming a firm fan favourite.

Last season he led an unfancied Roma to the Champions League semi-final where they lost to Liverpool.

that Dzeko could be prepared to leave due to a contract extension not forthcoming.

That has alerted Everton, but would he represent good business?

Dzeko’s form during 189 games for Manchester City wasn’t too bad. He netted 72 goals and contributed 39 assists, with a lot of his time on the pitch coming from the bench.

That was several years, however, and Dzeko isn’t getting any younger these days.

At 33-years-old can the Toffees really justify offering Dzeko a two or three-year contract?

With the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin shining with the first-team, some fans might be unsure as to whether his arrival would hamper his progress.

Whichever way you look at it the deal would only represent a short-term measure.

Yes, Dzeko knows where the back of the net is located but does he really fit with the ethos of what Everton have traditionally done in nurturing younger players.

There is an argument that he would bolster the striking ranks at Goodison Park, but Silva shouldn’t break the bank to land a player in the twilight of his career.
