Everton director of football Marcel Brands set to miss out on Thomas Meunier again
Everton are once again being linked with a transfer move for Belgian international Thomas Meunier.
in France, the Toffees are hopeful of signing the player on a free transfer in the summer.
It should not be a surprise. Everton were linked with Meunier in 2018 and last summer, , he was being valued at £26 million.
However, it seems Borussia Dortmund have won the race for the player. According to ESPN, the German club have agreed a deal to sign the Belgian. For Everton director of football Marcel Brands, it is yet another opportunity lost when it comes to signing Meunier.

That’s because he has wanted Meunier before. Back in 2015, it was being reported that PSV Eindhoven, where, at the time, Brands was sporting director. at the time, PSV were desperate to bring Meunier to the club from Belgian side Club Brugge. The right-back had earned the moniker ‘the Belgian Bale’ for his rip-roaring performances from full-back and PSV scouts reportedly watched Meunier in action in the Europa League.
However, a knee injury that summer scuppered any transfer. He went on to shine for Brugge throughout the campaign and was excellent at Euro 2016 with Belgium. The result was a move to PSG, with PSV no longer able to compete with the calibre of interested teams.
Now, once again, it seems that Brands has missed out on his man with Meunier set for a move to Germany. This might have been the last chance for the Dutchman to sign the 28-year-old. But with Everton well stocked at right-back, it may not be the worse scenario.
