Everton defensive target Diego Llorente would be a top addition

Everton have reportedly shown an interest in defender Diego Llorente from Spanish club Real Sociedad.

, the Toffees are keen on the 25-year-old but face stiff competition from Merseyside rivals Liverpool for his signature.

The report details that Liverpool are interested in a £26million move for the La Liga ace, while he does have a release clause in his current deal worth £45million.

Everton would have plenty of work to do if they want to win the race for the centre-back, but he could be a brilliant addition at Goodison Park if manager Marco Silva can pull it off.

Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and loanee Kurt Zouma have been the main options in the heart of defence for Everton this season, but they are going to need a new quality centre-back going into next year.

Llorente is a ball-playing centre-back that has become a consistent performer for Sociedad and was formerly on the books of Real Madrid.

He weighed in with seen goals across all competitions last year to highlight his attacking threat and he can drop into a defensive midfield role if needed.

Everton want to be a team that build out from the back and the two-time capped Spain international could definitely help do that.

Llorente definitely has the characteristics to succeed in English football with his power and also composure on the ball, which is why Everton should celebrate if they beat Liverpool to him.
