Everton defender Michael Keane must improve as Mason Holgate catches the eye

Everton defender Michael Keane needs to recapture the form he showed last season, or risk getting dropped for Mason Holgate.

The England defender has made a shaky start to the new season with Yerry Mina the man who looks more comfortable and commanding at the back for the Toffees.

Last season that was Keane, as he struck up a great partnership with the on-loan Kurt Zouma.

So far in 2019/20 Keane has received a bit of criticism for being too slow to react to things, and he also recently made a calamitous error recently on international duty against Kosovo.

It’s a testing time for the former Burnley man, who will not want to recapture the form he showed in 2017/18 shortly after joining. Then-manager Ronald Koeman was sacked, and Keane admitted feeling immense guilt as an underperforming marquee signing.

It’s important for the 26-year-old to really make it work with Mina, especially after Holgate turned in a good showing against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup.

Holgate himself has a point to prove after spending the second half of 2018/19 on loan at West Bromwich Albion and will be hoping for a run in the team.

Marco Silva may have no choice but to give it to him if Keane doesn’t turn things around quickly.
