Everton blow softened with Baines poised to replace Digne

Everton defender Lucas Digne was forced off against Watford at the weekend with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The French full-back left the action on 73 minutes after a brilliant performance at Goodison Park.

Digne assisted Bernard to score the only goal of the game, and was generally solid for the Toffees.

Everton supporters are keen to find out the extent of the damage, and the player is set for a scan.

He is currently a doubt for the Aston Villa clash on Friday, but thankfully Leighton Baines could be back just in time to replace the former Barcelona man should he lose his fitness battle.

Baines had an extra training session on Saturday – the day of Everton’s game – and has really stepped up his return, with Marco Silva confirming he trained all last week.

The defender has been nursing a thigh injury, and did not feature for the majority of pre-season.

Of course, Digne’s injury may not be serious and he could recover in time, but the update about Baines is good news.

Should Silva feel Baines – who earns £65,000-a-week at Goodison Park () –  is still not ready, then he does have Djibril Sidibe, who is no stranger to playing left-back.

The World Cup winner has played the position many times at AS Monaco, and could fill in if needed.

Silva will obviously be hoping the brilliant Digne recovers though.
