Football journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Everton are now likely to make a move to sign Chelsea duo Ross Barkley and Michy Batshuayi this summer.

Frank Lampard’s side were on the brink of relegation last season. The Toffees started the campaign with four wins in their first six games but then picked up just one victory in the remainder of the year. It really did look like Everton would go down at one point, but thanks to a slightly better end to the campaign, they survived.

The Merseysiders need to be better this season, but they have already suffered a big blow. Everton have lost their best player in Richarlison, and they need all the help they can possibly get to fill in the void he has left.

To do that, Lampard is eyeing two players from his old club, Chelsea.

Everton are now ‘likely’ to sign Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley

reported last week that Everton are keen to sign as many as four players from Chelsea – Barkley, Batshuayi, Billy Gilmour and Armando Broja.

Gilmour would be a great signing for the Toffees, but it’s unclear if Chelsea, who will once again be in the Champions League next season, are ready to sell him. Broja, on the other hand, could well be on the move, but whether he’ll sign for Everton over some of the other clubs interested in him is the big question.

However, Batshuyi and Barkley are two players who seem open to a move to Goodison Park this summer, and Jones believes it’s ‘pretty likely’ to happen in the coming weeks.

He told : “Everton are expecting a late flurry of business. So, in situations like that, you’re going to turn to places where you can strike a deal. So, I think both (Barkley and Batshuayi) are pretty likely.”

TBR View:

Everton have signed James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil so far, and all three of them could prove to be excellent additions. However, Lampard needs more help.

As good as McNeil is, it is unlikely that he’ll be able to be the kind of player Richarlison was for Everton. They need at least two more players who will offer them goals, and Barkley and Batshuayi are interesting options.

The Englishman definitely has the talent to deliver. He has proved it in the Premier League in the past with Everton, and in the right system, he could become a huge threat.

Batshuayi, on the other hand, spent last season on loan at Besiktas, and he impressed there. He scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 33 league games, which is not bad at all.

Lampard knows both players really well, and if he trusts them, Everton fans should give them a chance.
